It has become a cliché for us to use the pandemic as the catalyst for the unprecedented dependence on technology in the education sector. It is the reality. Yet, taking the pandemic out of the context, we have been powered by the industrial revolutions and thus the significant influences of sustained and accelerated growth of the technologies. We are now moving towards the Fifth Industrial Revolution (5IR), where alongside the utilization of technology, human inclusivity is significant. Where human inclusivity is lacking in the fourth, the fifth emphasizes advanced collaborative interactions between humans, machines, processes and systems for optimum operations, and human characteristics such as creativity and innovativeness. In the language education context, the emphasis on creativity and innovativeness, both from the teaching and learning point of view, is increasing fitting the current situation. This presentation will therefore share characteristics of the 5IR relevant to the language education context, and some creative strategies and approaches of how technology can be utilized for language teaching and learning.
